Buttons and automation¶
You can start, stop and restart Hebrish from outside the app. The floating mic must be on: it's the part of the app that's always running, so it receives the commands.
Buttons¶
Under Sound, microphone and buttons → Buttons and remotes, tap Learn next to an action, then press the button. Actions are Start or stop, Start, Stop and insert, Retake, Pause or resume, and Discard.
- Use bound buttons switches all bindings off without forgetting them, so the same remote works in other apps.
- Saved sets keep a named set of bindings, for example one per remote.
- Only bound keys are taken. Every other key works as usual. Back, Home and Recents are never bound.
- Many camera shutter remotes send Volume up. Binding it means the phone's own volume-up key dictates too. If that matters, map the remote with Key Mapper to a broadcast instead.
From other apps¶
Tasker, MacroDroid and Key Mapper can send these broadcasts to package app.hebrish.dictation, with no extras:
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
app.hebrish.dictation.action.TOGGLE |
Start a take, or stop and transcribe |
app.hebrish.dictation.action.START |
Start a take if idle |
app.hebrish.dictation.action.STOP |
Stop and transcribe |
app.hebrish.dictation.action.RESTART |
Throw the take away and start a new one |
app.hebrish.dictation.action.PAUSE |
Pause or resume |
app.hebrish.dictation.action.DISCARD |
Drop the take without transcribing |
Send them as a broadcast, not an activity or service intent. In Tasker that's Send Intent with Target Broadcast Receiver.
adb shell am broadcast -a app.hebrish.dictation.action.TOGGLE -p app.hebrish.dictation
